China Grants World’s First 6G Test Frequencies, Commercial Use Expected Around

Chengdu, China – July 9, 2026 – In a landmark move, China has become the first country in the world to officially license frequency bands for 6G technology testing. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has approved the use of the 6425-7125MHz band, providing a 700MHz-wide spectrum for real-world verification of next-generation communication systems.

This approval marks a shift from laboratory simulations to field testing in urban and industrial environments. The chosen mid-band spectrum provides an optimal balance between wide signal coverage and high data capacity, which is crucial for 6G’s ambitious goals of integrated sensing and communication, as well as space-air-ground networking.

Led by the IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group, testing will run from 2026 to 2027 and will involve all four major Chinese telecom operators. With the first phase of key technology trials completed between 2022 and 2025, work is now shifting toward system integration and engineering solutions. Industry experts expect the first 6G standard to be finalized globally in the coming years, with commercial deployment projected around 2030.

As a professional manufacturer of passive microwave components in Chengdu, Concept Microwave is closely following these developments. Our portfolio—including power dividers, directional couplers, filters, and combiners—is designed to support evolving communication bands from DC to 50GHz. We are well-positioned to support the RF front-end demands of future 6G infrastructure, whether through standard products or custom solutions for specialized applications.
