The Aging of Communication Product

The aging of communication products in high temperature , especially metallic ones, is necessary to enhance product reliability and minimize post-manufacturing defects. Aging exposes potential flaws in products, such as the reliability of solder joints and various design, material, and process-related deficiencies, before they leave the factory. It also ensures that the product's performance stabilizes within a specified range before it is shipped, thus reducing the rate of returns. This is crucial for the final quality of the product.

The aging process is often conducted in aging rooms or high-temperature chambers, also known as aging tests or accelerated aging experiments. The typical aging duration for regular components is around 8 hours at 85°C to 90°C, while more stringent military-grade products may require 12 hours of aging at 120°C. Whole systems or equipment may undergo aging for 12 hours or more at 55°C to 60°C. In the case of active products that generate their own heat, such as common base stations, a popular approach is self-aging, where the product is powered on to generate internal heat for aging without the need for external temperature control.

The primary purpose of aging is to eliminate residual stress, often referred to as stress relief. Residual stress refers to the internal stress system that exists within an object without external forces being applied. It is a type of inherent or internal stress. Aging helps in releasing this stress, which is essential for ensuring the structural integrity and long-term performance of communication products
