The Applications of Filters in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Communications

The Applications of Filters in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) CommunicationsRF Front-end Filters

1. Low-pass filter: Used at the input of UAV receiver, with cut-off frequency about 1.5 times of the maximum operation frequency, to block high-frequency noise and overload/intermodulation.

2. High-pass filter: Used at the output of UAV transmitter, with cut-off frequency slightly lower than the minimum operation frequency, to suppress low-frequency spurious emission interference.

3. Bandpass filter: With center frequency being the UAV operation band and bandwidth covering the entire operation bandwidth, to select the desired signal band.

Intermediate Frequency Filters

4. Wide bandpass filter: With center frequency being the IF and bandwidth covering the signal bandwidth, to select the IF signal after frequency conversion.

Narrow bandpass filter: For IF signal equalization and noise suppression.

5. Harmonic Filters

Low-pass filter: At transmitter output to suppress harmonic emissions above operation frequency.

Notch filter: To selectively and significantly attenuate known harmonic frequencies of the transmitter.

6. Filter Banks: Combining multiple filters to achieve better selectivity and suppression of unwanted frequency bands and spurious emissions.

The above are some typical applications of filters in RF front-end and IF processing of UAV communications, to improve signal quality and selectivity. There are also phase filters, programmable filters used in Beamforming networks.
